Typhoon Prapiroon Intensifies over Western Pacific October 12, 2012

Typhoon Prapiroon can be seen gaining strength east of the Philippines on early Tuesday local time.
Typhoon Prapiroon formed from an area of disturbed weather well to the east of the Philippines.

The storm reached Category 3 force late in the week as steering currents shifted its path from westerly to northeasterly.

Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 103 mph by forecasters at the U.S. Military Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Prapiroon means “rain god” in the Thai language.
