Storm-force Typhoon Krovanh uprooted trees and caused local flooding as it skirted the Japanese coast just east of metropolitan Tokyo on Monday.
Maximum sustained winds near Krovanh’s center were clocked at 63 mph as it made it’s closest approach to Honshu Island.
At least two people were injured in typhoon-related accidents in Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures, local police said.
The typhoon caused the cancellation and suspension of several Japan Rail trains and air traffic in the Kanto region.
Krovanh was named after a Cambodian tree, and is one of the names submitted by countries of the western Pacific that are affected by tropical cyclones.
