Luxury tourist resorts on the southern tip of the peninsula around Cabo San Lucas were spared significant damage as the storm passed well offshore in the Pacific before curving into a remote part of Baja farther north.
The storm formed off the Mexican mainland over the weekend and quickly strengthened to Category 4 force.
But its passage over cooler waters just to the south of Cabo San Lucas caused Jimena to weaken to a Category 3 storm as it neared the Baja peninsula.
Heavy rains from the storm did result in roads washing out in many parts of Baja California Sur state, according to officials.
Signs were blown down by high winds, which also knocked out power.
Jimena later moved ashore north of Cabo San Lucas, and traveled up the spine of the peninsula as it gradually lost force.
Remnants of the storm then brought rainfall to parts of Mexico's mainland state of Sonora as Jimena finally spun out.
