Radar images from the San Juan U.S. National Weather Service office show the poorly defined circulation of Tropical Storm Anna passing just south of the island.
The first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season formed well to the east of the Windward Islands over the weekend, threatening only shipping lanes.
Tropical Storm Anna then weakened into a tropical depression just before passing directly over Guadeloupe early on Monday.
The high terrain of Puerto Rico's interior further disrupted the storm's circulation as its remnants passed just south of the U.S. commonwealth.
The depression become so disorganized after its encounter with Puerto Rico that it was unable to regain strength.
