Tropical Storm Goni Dampens South China August 7, 2009
The eye of Tropical Storm Goni can be seen swirling toward the northwest at midday on Tuesday.
A tropical wave that killed at least 23 people as it drenched the Philippines over the weekend consolidated into Tropical Storm Goni early Tuesday over the South China Sea.

The storm caused a few showers to fall over Hong Kong as it passed about 100 miles to the south.

But the storm failed to bring much relief from sweltering temperatures in the upper 90s combined with high humidity.

Goni made landfall as a minimal tropical storm early Wednesday along China’s southern Guangdong coast.
