Strong Quake Jolts Indonesian Islands March 20, 2009
Quake Map of northern Indonesia
A 6.4 magnitude temblor struck the Talaud islands between the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and the southern Philippines late Monday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency determined the epicenter was near the island of Pulau Kabaruang, site of a 7.4 magnitude quake on February 12 that injured dozens of people while wrecking hundreds of buildings.

That quake also also triggered a brief tsunami alert that sent residents scrambling into trees and atop buildings.

No such tsunami alert was issued following Monday’s much weaker quake, which struck at 10:15 a.m. local time.
