The center of Gabrielle's poorly defined circulation became separated from most of the storm's cloudiness and rainfall late in this animation sequence.
An area of disturbed weather over the far eastern Indian Ocean gathered into Cyclone Gabrielle early Monday, about
500 miles south of the Indonesian island of Java.
Meteorologists at the U.S. military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center said the storm's structure never favored significant development.
Gabrielle eventually dissipated as it encountered cooler ocean-surface temperatures and strong wind sheer aloft.
The storm's main impact was to generate wave heights of up to 12 feet far from any significant land areas.
