Typhoon Dolphin Churns Western Pacific December 19, 2008
Typhoon Dolphin at peak intensity as a Category-2 storm well east of the Philippines on Tuesday.
The tropical storm phase of developing Typhoon Dolphin brought high surf and brief thunderstorms to Guam as it passed just to the south of the U.S. Pacific Territory on December 11.

Favorable sea-surface temperatures and lack of strong upper-air wind shear allowed the storm to later reach typhoon force while approaching the northern Philippines early Monday.

Dolphin stalled briefly, then began to intensify to Category-2 strength as it shifted to a northern track.

It then began to weaken on Wednesday while encountering the cooler waters of the North Pacific.

No injuries or damage were reported from the storm during it’s nearly one-week life span.
