Ongoing Persian Gulf Tremors Damage Homes December 12, 2008
Quake Map of Iran
Iran’s southern coast was jolted by another in a series of sharp quakes that have rocked the region since an initial 6.1 magnitude temblor killed seven people on Sept. 10.

The latest seismic event registered a magnitude of 5.6 and caused damage to several residential units in the Dargehan area while injuring five villagers, the ISNA news agency reported.

The governor of Dargehan told Iranian media that 2,000 tents were ready in case they were needed, and that medical teams with supplies and rescue equipment had been dispatched to check villages near Dargahan.

The epicenters of all the quakes within the last three months have been near the Persian Gulf island of Qeshm.

The strongest quakes have been felt in the United Arab Emirates on the other side of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which about 40 percent of the world’s traded petroleum passes.
