Bay of Bengal Cyclone Fizzles over Sri Lanka December 12, 2008
A disorganized circulation can be seen briefly swirling around Cyclone 07B over Sri Lanka.
Tropical Cyclone 07B formed briefly over the southern Bay of Bengal, but weakened to a tropical low before reaching cyclone-weary Sri Lanka and southern India.

Cyclone Nisha had left nearly 200 people dead after striking the northern tip of Ceylon and India’s Tamil Nadu state during the previous week.

Heavy rainfall from that storm caused catastrophic flooding over a wide area, and some forecasters had feared cyclone 07B would take a similar path.

But the late-season cyclone dissipated after attaining storm force for less than a day.

Locally heavy downpours from a weakened 07B did drench northern Sri Lanka for two consecutive days just as government forces were poised to finally capture the political headquarters of the rebel Tamil Tigers after months of fierce fighting.
