Tropical Storm Noul Drenches Vietnam November 21, 2008
Tropical Storm Noul can be seen making landfall in Vietnam to the northeast of Ho Chi Minh City.
Torrential rains from passing Tropical Storm Noul triggered flash flooding over central parts of Vietnam on Tuesday, but the country’s key coffee crop appears to have escaped damage.

Four people were killed when the storm roared ashore late Monday near the beach resort of Nha Trang, where 107 fishing boats were sunk.

Dozens of houses were unroofed and about 7,000 acres (3,000 hectares) of crops were destroyed, central emergency services in Hanoi said.

But coffee growers in the central highland provinces of Daklak and Lam Dong were able to resume picking the ripe coffee berries only a day after the storm passed.

Vietnam is the world's second-largest coffee producer after Brazil.

Remnants of Noul brought heavy rainfall across central Cambodia and southern Thailand on Tuesday.

The storm was expected to regenerate once it reached the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal late in the week.
