Typhoon Jangmi Lashes Taiwan October 3, 2008
The eye of Typhoon Jangmi became less defined as the storm approached northern Taiwan.
The most powerful typhoon to strike Taiwan this year left two people dead and forced the closure of businesses and financial markets on Monday.

An additional 58 people were reported to have been injured in storm-related accidents.

The victims were a woman killed on a motorbike when she was struck by a broken cable and an elderly man blown over by high winds and drowned in a paddy.

Jangmi, which means "rose" in Korean, made landfall Sunday packing gusts of up to 115 mph (191 km/h), according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau.

It was the sixth storm to strike the island this year.

In mid-September, 14 people were killed and seven others were left missing after Typhoon Sinlaku pounded the island, causing bridges, hotels and houses to collapse.
