When honeybees feel they are under attack, they can repel invaders by enlisting a swarm of soldier bees.
An ongoing spell of damp weather in northwestern France appears to be the reason a female beekeeper was left in a coma after being stung by about 100 bees.
The Quest-France newspaper reports that the unidentified 58-year-old woman was attacked while attempting to collect honey from her hives in the Brittany village of Kernevel.
Local beekeeper Valerie Tygreat told Agence France Presse that the bees were probably being defensive of their hives due to recent inclement conditions that prevented them from gathering pollen.
