French Tornado Kills 3 August 8, 2008
An eyewitness took this video shortly after the tornado ripped through the town of Hautmont.
A freak tornado wrecked more than 40 houses in northern France, killing three people and prompting one survivor to commit suicide after seeing his home destroyed.

The bodies of the victims were pulled from rubble in the town of Hautmont, near France’s border with Belgium.

The town's deputy mayor and his wife were among the dead after their house collapsed.

The other victim was an elderly woman who died when the twister caused her house to fall in on her.

Tornadoes are rare across Northern Europe, but several have occurred during recorded history.

The last significant tornado to strike France was part of an outbreak in June 1967 that spawned twisters in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
